Jayne Demakos, CTHP, CM-Th

Jayne Demakos began training in contemplative musicianship and music-thanatology with the Chalice of Repose Project in 2005 and certified in 2020 through the Music-Thanatology Association International. She is also a certified therapeutic harp practitioner through the International Harp Therapy Program. Jayne has a small professional piano & harp studio holding a BA from Ithaca College in piano performance as well as continuing education in choral conducting and Kodály education pedagogy. She taught for four years prior to the COVID lockdown in the Ithaca College Music School, developing curriculum and co-teaching specialized courses, “Exploring Music as Medicine” with emphasis on skilled nursing and hospice, respectively. She has 17 years experience offering harp and voice in health care facilities, namely Hospicare & Palliative Care Services in New York State and Providence St. Peter Hospital in Washington State. She is an entrepreneur developing and teaching programs as outreach into larger communities in need, for example: GriefSong; CompassionHarp; and Musical Companionship: How to be a Musical Companion for Your Loved One at End-of-Life. Jayne has been a performer and has three audio recordings. The last one was released in December of 2022, a recording of Gregorian Chant for harp & voice, called Sacred Chant: a Small Offering. She lives with her husband and greyhound in Ithaca, New York.
